    5 types of deaf people....lol

That's what I do really. I used SEE in school as well especially when I was younger in Language Arts (I mainstreamed). When I was older and toady I"d say I'm more SE (Signed English). Definitely Pidgin informally (Both Hawai'ian Pidgin and ASL/SE Pidgin lol)

Why are deaf people against those with hearing learning asl?

Great point about the differences between a "Deaf space" like a Deaf event opposed to just meeting people out in public (or hearing spaces really). I know there's different views from different Deaf/HoH (which is always true we're all individual people just like hearing with different ideas...

I thought this post was going to be about your own hearing aid appointment, and we could talk since I'm in the process of finding a new HA. Still I might be able to help..

Audie Wants Me to Get $5200 Hearing Aids (Resound) Need Help, Recommendations etc

Hey everyone. I finally have a good audiologist. She's great and was super helpful. Said that the other tests were showing some of my cochlea hair weren't badly damaged, but I had other inner ear damage in addition to my temporal bone fracture. Anyway as much as I love her and will keep her as...

Thanks everyone! My audie seems to want to get me with the dome ear buds but is concerned about background noise. Any recommendations for the best place to buy a good pair of ear molds online?

Why are deaf people against those with hearing learning asl?

Thank you so much! My parents weren't against learning sign, but I lost my hearing at age 6 before I started 1st grade. This was the early 90s and way before bi-bi was a thing. I had language skills so the need to get me somewhere quick wasn't an issue, and in my little mountain town we didn't...

Why are deaf people against those with hearing learning asl?

That's a fair enough view. I wasn't saying that's necessarily how I feel, just trying to explain the overall view. People generally aren't trying to be mean or standoffish. Just as HoH/Deaf people we want people to approach us to be friends and have conversations because of who we are as people...

Staying relaxed in noisy environments being hoh or deaf. .

Do you have an FM system of your own? Do you have other people wear it? I've only used it in school and it belongs to the school. I hate noisy environments, too much noise gives me HA bad feedback and I just get a headache. Even in class when too many people are talking I have a hard time.

Florida doesn't require certification for terps

I know right? This whole situation is crazy. I wonder if this lady really thinks she's fluent in ASL. I bet she does, after learning some "baby signs" from online or something.

Why are deaf people against those with hearing learning asl?

Definitely! It's the same where I'm from. When I was little, my brothers and I were the only kids in our whole apartment complex who spoke English. The Spanish speaking population is huge here. I lost my hearing when I was 6 in a car accident and before then I spoke about as much Spanish as I...

Why are deaf people against those with hearing learning asl?

I don't think people get upset. They just don't want to be used as tools to help you learn. Like come out to Deaf events, meet people, tell them you're practicing and learning ASL. But introduce yourself and make friends because you like the person, not because you need to learn for class if...

Can someone who is severely deaf talk normally?

I saw somewhere someone posted they lost their hearing at age 6 but I can't find the post now. Anyway that's when I lost my hearing. I'm now 29. I spent a lot of my elementary school years in speech and reading classes outside a normal classroom setting. Being post-lingually deafened is...

Looking for new ear molds? are ear molds being phased out?

To follow up I'm seeing RMEC on Wed. Dec 6th. They could do as early as next Tuesday but I have an appointment for something else I've been waiting months for. They've been so great so far, I can't thank you enough for the recommendation! I have another appointment with a private clinic next...
