Batteries are batteries. For the body aids yes they were bigger (with mine they looked like a Double A battery if I remember right). I don't remember how long a battery lasted though. They came in little packs of 2- red box with a red wrapper you could peel off the battery lol, but the HA...

If I can find it (My mother kept the damned thing- I think she still has it after moving) I'll snap a pic lol.

    Dreama's back. Remember me?

I wasn't around when AD first started but I have the impression that a) many either got banned, just left to avoid drama or b) just plain drifted away when Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc started to get bigger. and c) some members passed away.

I had one but it wasn't THAT big! Mine was a Y cord- just one plug and two ear pieces (kind of like the modern day earbuds/headphones...)

    Person Below Me

I was wondering the same thing. Those are fiction. Non-fiction are books like autobiographies, biographies, travel books, books about economics, languages blah blah blah. Hidden Figures is a non-fiction book. Unless there really IS a Hobbit somewhere in the world...hmm. ;) Yes I do. I...

    No cancel button for reply

I don't think there ever was a cancel button. I'm not even sure I've ever seen one in all the forums I've visited over the years - all of them on different software platforms. I guess maybe the only thing is to highlight the text then hit the DEL button on keyboard. I've done the 'hit...

A Thread About Absolutely Nothing! Part III

Deaf ear is the side where the angel resides :D Although...you could say deaf in both ears and march to the thump thump thump of your own drum (That would be me).

Starbucks to open sign language store

I saw a video on that on FB. I'm under the impression though that Starbucks will still have a small supply of plastic straws behind the counter and customers can ask for them if they need one.

    Person Below Me

Didn't camp much as a kid- very rare. But we did have a pine cone tree in our front yard..We did use them to make items and I think one year mom made a wreath. But no... never collected anything from camping when I did go. TPBM have you ever set your alarm thinking it was set for AM...

    Deaf and HIV

Too true. I lucked out years ago in finding a doctor who fit both of my needs as a patient. He was hearing but signed fluently. Bonus was he was very active in the deafblind community. Came highly recommended for the other reason I was looking for a doctor at the time. Liked him so much...

Traded - One Problem for Another?

Maybe but you'd be surprised I bet. Parents or whoever the caretaker is do get distracted easily. OR as noted in one of the articles... the adult may have decided to "let the child sleep" then... forgot. As for the other, true that people are more aware (as noted in the forum thread I...

Is there a blind culture like their is deaf culture?

No to both as far as I'm aware. Braille is a tool- I don't know if it's considered a language in it's own right though. Many people in both groups don't see themselves as disabled, just like Deaf but that doesn't make it a culture. There's a lot involved with creating a Culture- like ASL (or...

What are you doing right now? Part II

No I'm not forgetting about the rest of the state. I don't see many postings for other areas in NY- Albany and Buffalo are the two that I can remember. I think the state in general is too expensive but yes yes... I know there are cities and areas that are not so expensive. Too far north for...

A Thread About Absolutely Nothing! Part III

It's not a matter of "I don't want to try" (for ME at least) or "not ready", being in a space I'm not comfortable with - for example being a Team Lead or Project Manager- for me is just plain "no- that is not my style and I am not comfortable dealing with people and delegating". On top of...

    Your Bucket List?

Ohhh the ABQ Balloon Fiesta! I went to one...I've forgotten what year though..when my aunt was living in New Mexico (the second time). Up at the crack of dawn-- seeing them in the dark sky is absolutely amazing. I have a lot of pictures (until my camera battery died hmph) as does my dad...

    Deaf and HIV

I kind of learned about AIDS & HIV on my own from reading... I was in college when the news of this disease exploded in the 80s (and in a very negative light). As far as I know access to HIV education is even more limited in the Deaf & Deafblind communities. I've seen several funded research...

Traded - One Problem for Another?

If the car seat and booster seat are used correctly no I don't think there's less of a danger. The way media and social media is today- all news is 'instantaneous' so it SEEMS like it's worse now than before. I somehow wouldn't be surprised if parents STILL left their kids in the car on a hot...

    Person Below Me

depends... sometimes I need to plan (for big decisions/projects) sometimes I'm happy to go with the flow. TPBM same question as above.

Can you recommend fiction with Deaf characters?

I was able to google what I was trying to remember- the author of the books I have is Penny Warner. I don't know which titles I have but she has quite a few of them. Dead Body Language is one I think I have.. from this series...
