Tornadoes hit Joplin, damage hospital; casualties

So sad..... I may have to head that way tomorrow.

I hope any ADers in that area are safe. I hope they check in with us.

It's been a really bad spring in the Midwest so far. :(

Sad to say, but I am glad I moved away from the Midwest. We were in Columbia, MO, then went to Villa Ridge/Washington, MO just outside of St. Louis. I was never in Joplin, but my Sis-In-Law has family there. They are all right and they themselves had to damage.

A friend of ours works for the Missouri State Patrol and has been dispatched from Just outside of Herman, MO to go to Joplin for as long as needed. Also, some of our local EMT's have been dispatched to go as well. They left a few hours ago.

Much of my old crew was from Joplin. They have alot of family there still. This year reminds me alot of 2004. We were working 2-3 days without sleep just to cover storm damage before the next wave.....usually working through storms.

It has been a rough spring out there. Praying for those affected.

On the drive back from Kansas City yesterday, the eastern sky sure looked mean. When I got home, there was a deep pink color everywhere. I knew something bad happened. It will be a long summer.

indeed.... 2011 is a bad year.... tornadoes in Midwest and Southeastern America.... massive flooding in NJ including several towns near my home...

yuck

several flooding around here near my home except my hometown. :(

The number of deaths keeps climbing. :(

Yeah, it is a terrible year so far. There have been tornadoes in Auckland, New Zealand and in Taiwan as well. The climate seems to be changing or just getting more intense. Iowa and Kansas had seen reports of small tornadoes and severe storm damage.

Someone said 200 last night.... Hopefully they were wrong.

this heartbreaking!!

im so shocking about hospital damages that where my late step-dad my late step-grandma is patient before but my mom called my step-family and everyone ok but lucky not lives there!!

The only saving grace about this thing is that it happened on a Sunday. If it had been a weekday, even more would have been killed. CNN had a walk-around feature on it and they showed what had been a several-stories-tall office building totally flattened; not a bit of it standing anymore. If that had been filled with people on an ordinary weekday, that would been a few hundred people in that building alone.

Really awful scenes of the devastation there.

Agreed. This has been one of the most unpredictable, turbulent years weather wise I can remember.

True, that. More people gathered in central locations during the week.
