Last year, I went to TacoBell/KFC (combo restaurant) in Shawnee, KS. I ordered dinner by writing note so it would be easier for me cuz I was ordering dinner for my family. I wrote down exactly what's on menu board even specified Grilled or fried chicken. The clerk read it and made an order but he gave me wrong food. I told him this is wrong order and I show him my note. He said oh ok then made a correction. Then the next few weeks later, different clerk but did the same thing. Make me wonder why and I checked my handwriting, it was very clear in a cleanly printed "drafting" writing. So I'm not the problem, it's them!
I spoke with the manager and explaining him that I kept getting wrong order in past regardless I wrote down exactly what I want. He shrugged and told clerk to make a correction. Then my final straw......
Months later we went back same restaruant (hoping there will be new clerk and employees cuz of high turnover). There was female clerk at counter, I did same thing and they still made wrong order plus my wife been waiting for her dinner over 30 min which she order Grilled Chicken Gorditas Supreme and Nacho Bell Grande that never came. I returned with receipt and told the clerk that my wife been waiting for order. She made a face at me and in 5 min, finally she brought over dinner to my wife. It was wrong gorditas, she gave her Beef instead of grilled Chicken!! I had to return and told her with receipt clearly stated Grilled Chicken Gorditas Supreme!! Grudgingly she made an correction and gave it to me. I told my wife that we would not go back to Shawnee TB/KFC again. I did not complain to manager again because it's the same manager. It seem like manager just don't train employees to communicate with deaf customers. Years before, when they had different manager and that restaurant was recently opened (that was 7 or 8 years ago), their service was excellent till they had new manager few years ago. Things went "south" on us when we go there.
So we decide to go to Bonner Springs TB/KFC which is 8 min drive from my home. Their service was EXCELLENT!!! I got what I just ordered! and their employees are forthcoming and friendly (most are hispanics). So I stuck with Bonner Spring TB/KFC.
Made me wonder why Shawnee TB/KFC still haven't changed their attitude toward deaf. Actually, we are just one of very very few deaf customer go there. We didn't do anything wrong and we don't come there much..
I would plan on do a "check" at Shawnee TB/KFC to see if there are new manager. If they do then I would try and give it a written order "test"
If I go to Olathe, KS TB/KFC, they have employees know how to sign ASL because there are large deaf population there. It's 20 min drive from my home. Not worth wasting gas and time.
I had few similiar issue at different fast food in some states while I travelled. Manager or employees apologized and made corrections without grudge..
I find that interesting that no matter if it's written or verbally, they still do make mistake regardless.
Have you ever had problem with fast food employees who just can't follow written order regardless your clean-cut well printed or 'John Hancock" handwriting??
