Guess who will be the ones that get f****d? (we all are anyway)....

Under the health care overhaul, young adults who buy their own insurance will carry a heavier burden of the medical costs of older Americans — a shift expected to raise insurance premiums for young people when the plan takes full effect.

Beginning in 2014, most Americans will be required to buy insurance or pay a tax penalty. That’s when premiums for young adults seeking coverage on the individual market would likely climb by 17 percent on average, or roughly $42 a month, according to an analysis of the plan conducted for The Associated Press. The analysis did not factor in tax credits to help offset the increase.

The higher costs will pinch many people in their 20s and early 30s who are struggling to start or advance their careers with the highest unemployment rate in 26 years.

The Associated Press: Health premiums could rise 17 pct for young adults

That estimate is for today current estimate when estimates usually change upwardly over time as it nears the date.

coulda woulda hava

Young people pay more, yes but they don't have to pay more when they get older. The higher premiums hurt the elderly a LOT more than the young.

Let's watch that unemployment rate go up, too. While we're at it the new law have restrictions on allowing insurers charge higher premiums on at-increased-risk pool members. This merely shifts cost around, not reduces it overall.

Live with it. :)

I would believe when I see.

what happened to showing respect for the elderly?

Doesn't sound like a reliable source of information.

Look in the newspapers...

there was an article on it in the newspaper in my town.

Ok, this plan isn't kick in so it is just research or opinion until it has approve in eventually.

In 2014, I will be 27 years old.

No offense, but I think it's ridiculous the complaints people have of paying premiums for health insurance, when the cost is nearly 1/3 the cost of car insurance IN A MONTH. It just seems like some people don't want to deal with the extra responsibility of getting health insurance (though, now, Obama just HAD to pass a ridiculously, mandatory, bill that you buy it or get screwed even more), because they didn't have cops scolding them for having no insurance and fining them 10x more than otherwise. Perhaps that's the purpose Obama saw in making it mandatory... many Americans need the push to take the responsibility.

Trust me, I get it, some people were in the loophole and couldn't seem to find any insurance, and some were continuously discriminating from receiving it, but that's besides that point. Many of us with the hearing loss are discriminating, still, when trying to get a job, and it often doesn't stop us from actually getting a job.

Just saying. :)

You will be paying anyways...so will I...if we make a certain amount of money in one year.

Not sure where you are getting you health insurance quote. For most who buy individual health insurane the cost is three or 4 times more than their car insurance AND the deductable are high as well.
