The last 2 days Im having a bitch of a time with my 360 not reading my discs. Every time I pop in a 360 game disc (TDU, PGR3 and GOW) I get a "To play a disc, insert it in the xbox 360" message with a white background. I tried spraying canned air in the dvd drive and it will work for a while but then the problem keeps cropping up. That is when I have no red light rings lighting up the 360 All green rings on when I got the screen on my tv.

Im at wits end and I hate the thought of having to go back to the ebgames to xchange it for another 360 (Mine was made in May 2006).

hmmm and mine was manufactured in July. perhas you should call MS first and see if they can help you with something.

Better to exchange or contact microsoft (if you have no reciept).

UPDATE: After 4 days of frustration, troubleshooting and analysis, I have determined that my 360's DVD drive failed. The failure was unusual that I have no red lights on my ROL (all lights stayed green) and also besides the "insert dvd into 360 console" screen, I also had a "open tray" mesage on dashboard every time I tried all my 360 discs. Sometimes it will boot, sometimes it wont.

Last night I searched through xbox-scene.com , the xbox hacker site for troubleshooting information and I found the diagnosis of my 360's Samsung dvd drive being totally bricked through a video of someone using a rubber band to force the dvd drive to load. I reached my conclusion that my Samsung dvd drive was pretty much fucked up. I would have attempted the fix but since I bought the 360 only 3 weeks ago the best thing I could do was exchange it.

So I took the 360 back to EBGames to exchange it for another 360. I asked the manager to make sure to get me the latest build date. Ouch most recent build date for the new 360they had in stock is 6/21/2006 (my bricked 360 was built 5/17/2006) with the same brand of dvd drive in it...Damn but then I had to take it. Lucky they let me keep my old HDD loaded with my gamesaves.

To be safe, I decided to toss in a xtended warranty for a year so I can get a shot at a 65nm chip/Liteon DVD drive combo 360 if the Samsung DVD drive 360 fails on me again. I just dont want to deal with too much M$ bullshit and the hassle of shipping a bricked 360 back to them when I can take it back to EBGames for another 360.

I just cant believe that the Samsung DVD drive in my 360 was more fucked up than the Samsungs I had in my original xbox. The original xbox's Samsung drive was sooo reliable until I traded for the 360 and now I dont know how its affecting my loyalty to the Samsung parts inside the 360.

I havent decided if Im going to keep the new 360 on xbox Live until I am assured the Fall Update wont brick it again.
