What do you think of Universal Health Care?

I think there should be one. I think that it is a natural right to provide that more so than Post Office. This isn't to say that Post Office shouldn't be government funded, but I am just giving a statement to compare.

I think that Private health insurance dominate too much the premiums, who should get health coverage and how much to pay your bills.

I think no one will have to worry about paying health coverage. There's many jobs that don't want to provide you with health insurance and keep you part-time so they don't have to give you one. There's also health insurance that's provided but not any more affordable than getting your own self health insurance.

Pharmaceutical companies determine too much how much to charge their medicines.

Did you watch Sicko? Interesting documentary to make us think.

I'd love to walk into hospital and not pay outrageous bills. I went to dermatologist a few days ago and the consultation took only 2 min.... prescribed 2 ointments (I have a persistent dry skin problems). Total cost... about $400 :mad2:

While this Universal Healthcare is a wonderful concept.... it is unrealistic and costly especially when the world is fueled by monetary economy. For now - I think government should do something about the cost of medications. It's insanely expensive!

Actually, it costs less per capita in Canada compared to what the US government spends per capita. At least by 3 times, I believe. Also, our healthcare is ranked higher than yours'. The strange part is, there's no universal healthcare in the USA. Unless you count medicare which is a joke.

Per Capita U.S. Health Care Costs Triple Canada's

Healthcare in USA is pretty warped. It's motivated by greed as far I can see. It need to be reformed.

indeed... indeed.... a heavy reform we need....

I concur with you. You should watch the movie called Sicko and it is interesting.

The $64,000 question is: are the U.S. taypayers willing to pay MUCH MORE to start and prop the universal health care system in the U.S.?

I'm not sure but I think Sicko did not cover on how universal healthcare is financed... I can't remember. I'll need to re-watch it. But if you ask me if I'm willing to pay much higher tax for universal healthcare.... my answer is ABSOLUTELY FUCK NO!

Thanks, Banjo.

If US want to have Universal Health Care, it must start with small to make everybody in US's budget make habit like gas raise price.

Everybody cannot afford to jump already.

There are large medium-class than low (hard) and high (easy) class in US. It's more like that half of Medium-class income would have hard time to deal with budget change.

I knowledge that US is the only wealthy country without Universal Health Care, yet, they cover much as 27% thry US federal staff and disability.

If it passed here in US, there would be suddenly overwhemled for medical staffes and long-wait.

Yep, and I think that the only one way to reduce that greed is by having the government be involved. I don't think that people's health care is an option.

That's something that we need to learn more of, but I am thinking that it may or may not cost more of our taxpayer dollars. At least, our fellow americans won't be left worse of than anyone else. Also, the private companies won't be pumping at our pocket expenses the way they want it. It will be more controlled, so in a way, I am thinking this might not really increase our taxpayer dollars if we look at the whole picture of it.

Oprah had a show about this, and there was a Canadian woman married to an American. She said that she has the peace of mind to know that she won't have to worry about refinancing her mortgage knowing that everything will be paid for.

Michael Moore was asked about how people have a waiting list on when they will get their operations, and he said that at least he knows that everyone else will get the same treatment if that means he has to wait for a surgery in 8 weeks.

I think sometimes we have to think of the benefit of this system that will benefit America as a whole. When we focus on ourself and our tax dollars, we may not see the benefit of the system in the long run. It may take Americans time to adjust.

I don't know how much more it'll cost, but I think it'll solve a problem that's ridiculous to people having to choose health coverage or not or be denied coverage.

I do not know if we should have universal health care because I'm worried about how much taxes I would pay every year. Altho, in return I get free health care without worrying about expensive health care bills.

I believe there should be universal healthcare for sure. However, I have lived both in Canada and in the U.S. (maryland) and I find that even thought you do pay alot more vs us (i live in ottawa, on canda now) your wait times and hospitals are overall alot better than ours. For example, I do cheerleading and gymnastics...whenever I got hurt, which was often enough, or had to go to the hospital for anything, I never waited more than 20 minutes EVER to get into a room. Here in Canada, our wait times to get out of the waiting room and into a room are ridiculous! I once waited 6 hrs to get into a room and I'm asthmatic and was misdiagnosed with pneumonia. It was ridiculous...i think the least amount of time I've waited in an ER waiting room in Canada was at least an an hour. I won't even begin to talk about wait times for MRI, CT's, etc.

It is same here in USA, many time we went to er and we waited 3 to 4 (sometime 5) hours in waiting room before we went to see dr.

Few weeks ago, I happened to play a game on pogo and watched other people's conversative between them on chat. I feel bad for this lady, she said she and her husband have to move out the home they owned for last few years because of hospital bills. Her husband worked for many years then laid off then found other job and his company does not provide health insurance for him. Then he got heart attack and had no health insurance. Now he has to find a way to pay $58,000.00 hospital bill. Anyway this lady said he worked all of his life and now this, they getting screw over. I voted yes we all should not be throw out into street because of no health insurance.

Well, I was in USA to visit a friend with ADer friend last year. We were at waiting room for a long hours for get the bed for him. I have seen the people in waiting room...

Your experience between America and Canada doesn´t mean that every universal healthcare are the same.

I NEVER have any problem with universal healthcare here in Germany... I get it straight way when I need it... There´re no waiting list... just do on next day... Example: My MIL got bad result from family doctor that she got a breast cancer and send her to clinic STRAIGHT way and have an operation on next day and then chemo therapy..........

Each universal healthcare system in different countries are not same.

Yes, it´s very sad... I´ve read a lot about Americans who don´t have full healthcare coverage... like price limited which is too expensive... they have to pay thousands extra... lost their homes... because of this... :(

Yes, me too... Here in Germany, I have to wait for 30 to one hour at waiting room for go to see doctor or dentist... gyn. ooooohhhhh.... 2 or 3 hours waiting... but at clinic is different story... only 10 to 20 minutes then go to see doctor.
