From this article in one of medical journals I read (from bookstore):

"From its appearance, we're fairly certain it's a tumor called teratoma," Dr. Hayward said, describing a potentially malignant tumor. "It's very unusual. It's actually a living thing. It has hair, nails, and sometimes even teeth. It's a congenital tumor, there at birth. Usually we find it growing in the abdomen. I've rarely seen this kind in this brain."

Afterward, I stared in horror at that article.. but it got me curious about this teratoma so I researched some several hours at medicine university near my place and found out more..

A teratoma is a type of tumour that derives from pluripotent germ cells. The word comes from a Greek term meaning roughly "monster tumor". Teratomas usually start from cells in the testes in men, the ovaries in women and in the sacrum (Dakkon noted: sacrum is a bone at the end of the spine. It articulates with the hip bone at two sacroiliac joints) in children. Teratomas involve cells from all three embryonic cell layers: ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. The can be benign or malignant.

Teratomas often contain well-differentiated cells which can result in tissues growing in a teratoma which are quite different to the surrounding tissue—ovarian teratomas have been known to grow hair and teeth. Such a benign cystic teratoma is often termed a dermoid cyst. Testicular teratomas are generally less well-differentiated, and have a worse prognosis (chances of recovery are not as high).

Many teratomas secrete the "pregnancy hormone" human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which can be used in clinical practice to follow-up successful treatment or relapse in patients with a known HCG-secreting teratoma. It is not recommended as a diagnostic market.

Based on several medical journals/books, I found that teratoma can only develop if anybody consume 'canned-foods', irradiation, homogenized, pasteurized or ultrapasteurized foods. For one, I am very, very grateful that I never consume canned or these chemical-altered foods.. It is quite scary to have that kind of condition. According to JAMA journal, in America, teratoma condition has been increasing 13% from 2% in only 8 years. They predict that it will increase to 35% by end of this decade (printed in 2003, in other words, 35% by 2013) if continually consume these 'certain' chemical-altered foods. (Note: FDA approved irradiation foods several years ago, the researchers linked the teratoma condition to that because of nearly-accurated time frame between irradiation foods and teratoma. Researches are still going on at this moment)

I save this for last because it is quite scary to look at.. here's picture: (Actually there are few freaky pictures but I guess that people here may not want to get a look at so I picked only one, x-ray picture)

Show us more! You can actually just post the URL without using the IMG tags. That way, we won't have to see the pictures... unless we WANT to! :thumb:

I'm curious, too. :) Post it on a server and supply a link and we'll have a look. Doesn't have to be directly imaged onto here.

Okay! I am going to scan one image off from the journal as soon as I get the permission from the library. I will do it in few hours.

Ok, here it is...

The library forbids me from scanning the picture due to copyrights (they always did) so I couldn't show you the nail and other things.

Whoa! Fascinating...I've seen a lot of pictures of dead people and cavedars (spelling) on different sites.
Thanks for sharing this with us. :) Always am learning something new.

I've seen these tumors in the past. They can grow very large. I've seen the tooth set as well, man. It was interesting.
