Scott Peterson Convicted of Murdering Wife and Baby

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Scott Peterson was convicted Friday of murdering his pregnant wife and dumping her body into San Francisco Bay in what prosecutors in the made-for-cable-TV case portrayed as a cold-blooded attempt to escape marriage and fatherhood for the bachelor life.

Peterson, 32, could get the death penalty. He was convicted of one count of first-degree murder for killing his wife, Laci, and one count of second-degree murder in the death of the son she was carrying....

I guess you could say that justice was served—in all probability he did it. The only thing that annoys me about this whole affair (and similar media hooplas like the JonBenét Ramsey case) is that the public is making such a big deal about it. If Laci Peterson were a poor black woman living in a trailer park in Alabama, would this media frenzy have occurred? The answer to that question is obviously no.

All I have to say is, THANK GOD! The jury actually got it right for once. The only thing I am wondering about is why they found him guilty of 2nd Degree murder in the death of Baby Conner. I don't really understand this. To me, if he intended to kill Laci than he also intended to kill Conner, and therefore, the degree SHOULD be fixed at 1st degree for both. But, whatever..At least, he's been found guilty, and will pay for what he has done.

Thank God this is not going to be like OJ Simpson s case.

I was afraid that the jury would let Scott off free as it is clear that he did it from the day one.

Now I dont have to deal with seeing a smirk on his face in the papers or TV anymore.

I hate to agree with you, but I agree with you. It's sad that there is such a double standard where the media is concerned. But, at least, we can say that in THIS case justice was served.

Levonian is right.

But at least Peterson is guilty. Justice is served for once here.

I'm glad it is over and Scott Peterson is finally found guilty. So that is good.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. OJ's wife was a rich white woman. Ramsey was a little rich cute white girl. Peterson's wife was a cute white pregnant woman.

It's a conspiracy!

Y'all are wrong.

Guilty or not, the prosecutors didn't prove that he did commit the murders. It should had been declared a mistrial. All of the witnesses, they had nothing relevant to contribute to the case, all of the evidences didn't point to the murders at all.

Just because it's "obvious" to you that he did commit the murders doesn't mean he did murder his wife and the baby. What you had said is nothing but an opinion, not a fact.

Justice hasn't been served yet because they weren't able to prove that Scott Peterson did commit the murders. I'm not saying he didn't, but I'm saying that the trial was a joke. Also, the two jurors that got dismissed prior to the verdict? If these two jurors had stayed, it could had been a hung jury, no doubt.

It's sickening to see people thinking opinions over the facts are good enough to get justice served.

Well... if he really killed his wife and that's good he is guilty. Strange things about his wife and the baby. The wife's body was cut into pieces and the police found the body without head, arms and legs. There was no baby inside her body. Then a week later, they found the baby about 40 miles away from the mother's body. The tapes had been wrap around the baby's neck. Yeah it sound pretty gross but I was wonder if he ever did this himself or helping from someone. There is something fishy about Scott's girlfriend.

Oceanbreeze, hi there, long time, no see! Anyway, I think they rendered murder
in the second degree re: the baby as a legal "after-thought", the primary target was the baby's mother and along with special circumstances, the penalty is death. Now, the trial is not over; they will resume in the penalty phase beginning on the 22nd and I hope this jury and the judge will declare that Scott's spending the rest of his natural life in a 9 by 6 cell is better than putting him to sleep.

Banjo, I fully understand your reaction but this being an almost purely circumstantial case, meaning there was no weapon, no witnesses, no blood, no forensic evidence, etc, etc, what the prosecution DID lay out was enough to convict. Motive DOES NOT have to be proven, contrary to popular belief. From the beginning, it has been emphasized that this is a case to be concluded based on COMMON SENSE. It just so happens that I watched almost all of this case daily on Court TV because I work nights and when I got home in the morning, I went to bed watching Court TV and this case. I watched and listened to the commentary of a long line of lawyers, legal experts; I watched most of a list of nearly 200 witnesses; almost 200 pieces of evidence and COMMON SENSE prevailed.......I guess ya had to be there, like I was to get a "feel" for this case. There's soooooooo much I am leaving out here but I think you get the sentiment........one had a sense of what the truth was and it is no wonder the jury came back in record time....it was because they had been listening to this stuff for FIVE FRIGGIN months! And it is not over for this jury; they get a week off and go back in for the penalty phase.

Now, this is not to say this is the end of Scott, as careful as the experienced trial judge was, having come out of retirement to take this case but over 5 months' time, I am sure things have transpired that Geragos will be smacking his arrogant lips in appealing this and that.....

scott peterson sucks

but nayway that is good it saves taxpayer money so that they wont have to go to another trial for laci becz they are giong to fry him anyway(death pently0 etc :fingersx: :)

Actually it is CHEAPER to send a person to life in prison than to sentnce him to death. That is because there are automatic appeals, and they cost millions of dollars.
Strange but true.

I agree with banjo.. that trial proceeding so far seemed weird and looks like there were jury infighting. They just want to convict peterson because he's liar.. that trial is so messed up... the boat has been trashed... and turned into shrine.. sheesh.. court didn't bother to secure the boat in fenced area... kinda tell you that court system in that area is so lax... so it looks like a fair trial was not served. I am leaning toward justin's(former juror) opinion that peterson would get acquittal but he and I are shocked as to so quick deliberation after two jurors were replaced.. the judge said to do it all over again.. now bam.. that quick? I think the replacement just sat and said ok let's skip everything and do you all want to go home? ok let's vote this quilty 1st and 2nd??? they all raise hands and end it. No, no.. do it again for couple of days then come to final agreement.. that's why that it caught me off...

Hi Tousi! LTNS!! :)

I have to tell you, I'm torn about the penalty. Apart of me wants to see him get the death penalty. While another part of me thinks that that's too easy, and he should spend the rest of his natural life in that cell you mentioned, thinking about what he did to Laci and the baby. So, I don't know, but I really think he needs to pay for what he did one way or another.

WRONG! You and we pay extra more taxes
for Scott Peterson's prison food electric etc...
Prisoners are very expensive they do NOT pay
for their food etc but we have to pay for them !!!

THis is much cheaper to have him
deal with the death penalty ...

Yeah our grandkids will be reading the paper on Scott Peterson's execution.
