I can see how it would not fit what you want. But, I thought I wasn't the only one on this site that learned to speak before losing hearing and still prefer to do so.
 
it would have to be really good for me to include the voice plan. It's not that I can't talk, I don't get enough calls to justify the cost.

I make/receive very few calls a month also. So I am using an AT&T MVNO = PureTalk USA. I am paying $19.95 per month and the amount of minutes and data allowance keeps going up because I am not using it all! It is their $10.00 a month Flex Plan with $9.95 data add-on.

Also forgot to say that for me having this on a cell phone comes in handy at times besides the peace of mind to be able to communicate for myself if something happens while out and about.

I use Magic Jack and a Caption Call phone. It's $100 for 5 years. It's not a cell phone, but it serves my needs.
