Pagers Etiquette Challenge

I challenge all pager users to give up using their gadgets at least for one day per week!

I challenge my friends who use pagers frequently to turn them off once they come in my door to visit me.

I challenge all pager users to ignore all pages and emails during class times and meetings.

I challenge my friends' friendships on the way they use their pagers while talking to me. If I am being ignored in a conversation and a pager is more important than talking to me, get the fuck out of my face!

I challenge all pager users to TURN OFF their pagers when they are on a date! If you use your pager at all, your date will be TURNED OFF.

I challenge all pager users to set a good example of properly using the pagers and electronic devices!

I challenge all pager users to wisely use their pagers for emergencies. *edit-added after Vampy's point*

Do you accept my challenge?

Simple, don't turn it off... leave it on, but ignore it. That's more challenging than turning it off! Some rules should be waived if you are expecting an emergency or specific message.

My friends use the "it's an emergency" excuse. That won't fly with me because I know their "emergencies" do not require calling 911.

I definitely agree with you, Deaf258!

Yes, I believe it is extremely rude when deaf people spending their quality of time by using pager.

When I was talking to a friend on Video Phone, and he was talking to someone on the pager while I was on the phone with him. I thought it was very rude. Also once I had a party at my house, and trying to host a game, but everyone on my couch were talking with their friends thru the pager. It was a big turn off.

I feel that the pagers definitely damaged the deaf community/social time. It s unfortunate to see it happen. Dont you agree? I dont care if no one agree with me. :) hehe.

 I know who that friend is.. One of my roommates!! I saw that happen! I walked past him while he was talking to Bewitched on the videophone. What a rude jackass!

Ask yourself this: Have I ever seen someone use 2 different phone lines at the same time everyday?

Yes, I have. I've seen my sisters on AOL (through modem) while chatting with their friends on the phone! Hehehe!

Ahh.. let me rephrase that..

Have you seen people used 2 pagers exact same time, or 2 ttys exact same time, or use 2 cellphones exact same time everyday?

Oh yes, I hate to seeing the staff use their sidekicks to chatting on their AIM during their work.

According to my individual’s behave was screamed and cried in frustration due to no communicate her feelings to the Staff who is not signing on Saturday morning. I approached her to comfortable with her. She poured out of her chest that she was mad at staff who used alot of pager. I asked her what was wrong; she glared at the ceiling and quiet few moments. I rubbed her hand to see if she was all right. She hysterically cried and sign Mom, Mom Home… She was worried that she may not see her Mom on February 13th for the weekend due to her behavioral occurred on Friday night. I asked her go to shower and change her clothes. She went to the shower. I went back to other houseto check on the individuals.

I checked on her around after lunchtime. She slept on the couch with very depression. She woke up around 5 o’ clock p.m. to merge with other house individuals. She had a dinner with us. Her eyes were swallowing due to cry and depress all the day.

I can see several staffs neglect individuals while they use their pagers. That is why, I would not rather get a sidekick, it will annoy me alot during my work hour. I prefer to use my wyndtell to prevent tempt to using chatting line.

Not fair for these individuals.

Ah, then I have my pager etiquette!

I HATE it when friends invite me over then all they do is talking on their pagers. WHAT THE HELL... YOU invite me over and you are wasting my time!

ARGH!

I usually check my pager if THAT somebody is checking their pager then it is only fair. I only turn on AIM whenever I am alone and bored :D

I hold off my sidekick while driving over 25mph (err...)

I never carry my sidekick on me on a short errand outside with friends etc.

I value my wallet over sidekick.

If the battery dies, it is okay wtih me because I got my books etc to keep me busy but it is not okay if I was in middle of urgency with friends (ie, directiosn to their houses etc or that I am lost in middle of a suburb on way to meet somebody)

It digusts me so much that people are using sidekicks to talk to eachother WHEN THEY ARE IN THE SAME ROOM. [rme] Technology is killing the human relations/bonds and disable us to communite efficiently. I wont be surprised if the next generation has no visible emotions at all and only go to their only resort to vent- the cyber world.

I agree with you guys although my friends who r hearing has cell phones but doesnt use it while we hang out or something. Same goes to my family. I thought it was rude when I saw some people on dates and they use the pager or whatever in the middle of the evening. It would be a turn off for me. I am glad that it didn't happen to me though. If it did, I would have left in the middle of the date and call one of my parents to come and get me. I find it respectful if they use those stuff in the middle of something important like a date, or friends together..something like that. Jeremy is considering to get a cell phone to use for emergcy only like if I am in labor or something happened to friends and family seriously.

:werd: I remember having to constantly ask people to turn their pagers off at other people parties and a few times during my New Year's Eve party. Man, I think it is very pathetic that people don't know how to turn their pagers off. If they really wanted to talk with someone else than me, they can go visit that person's house! Sidekicks are making everyone WAY TOOOOOOO ACCESSIBLE!

i recently rec'd an e mail abt that and i do accept the challenege but ONE rule will have to be broken due to my on call status work as a interp. so therefore if i feel the pager buzz me i HAVE to check the pager to see if it's work or if its a personal e mail if personal e mail then no plm i ll ingore that my family have three codes now at home, one 911 basically is go straight to the ER dad's sick and taken in, 143 mom or my babe telling me they love me, but i don t reply to that, 411 meaning they need something from me to bring home but to check later.... so the work code is, 911 and the location thats it... then i ll know to zoom to that location after apologizing for short abrupt leave... they all know i work and am on call. So that's a good thing :)

  ....Gnarlydorkette!...

I know how you feel...I've been there before myself....when they invite me out to lunch and seeing them talking on their pagers....Its like what the HECK?...

I was just at the hot tub earlier tonight. There was a lot of people there. When everyone got out to dry up, I turned around and saw more than half of them with their heads down fidding around with their pagers!

:lol:when I had wyndtell pager with me Iwud use it while work but not anymore when I got tmobile pager now it's in my locker while I work ugh. but oh well at least i use it only at break time but i can't exceed break time for that after all I'm only one deaf employee at that place so I usually use aim when I need a friend to chat with  but I passed one rule NEVER use damn pager while work or u can get in trouble UGH..

I called those pagers "Deaf's Personal Vibrators"!! Deaf love the pagers so much, they get satisfied with using those vibrating messages!! It's no wonder they can't live without it at the cost of their own social life! :naughty:
