Vp-100

Hello all,

I have a sorenson VRS, the installer required a priority for visually impaired and person in the wheelchairs on the top lists..

I can safely opine that if you have VP-100, youre going to be stuck with Sorenson VRS.

Richard

Can you eloborate why? :dunno:

When you get the VP-100, you have to agree to a "User Agreement" that you will only use Sorenson VRS. I'm finding a copy of that agreement right now.

Edit: In addition, the software on the VP-100 prevents you from calling any of the other VRS services. That means if for some reason you can't reach Sorenson VRS, you're out of luck.

You'll note that none of the other VRS providers have this restriction. Only Sorenson does this.

This is the very reason why I refuse to use Sorenson. MONOPOLY!

Everyone needs to be aware of this legal case in which HOVRS accuses Sorenson Media of theft and it is likely that HOVRS will win this case and when that happens Sorenson VRS may have to cease operations according to page 15, graft 82 - A,B, & C. And you all be ready for that if you have the VP-100.

The case document is at;

Ive been aware of it so that is why I refuse to use Sorenseon. I either use Hamilton or Sprint.

Also Thank Nesmith for the legal documents. I wish the best luck of all VRS who felt that Sorenson is not practice fairly. Sorenson deserve this kind of lawsuit like Microsoft do over their anti-trust actions. That of course is my fat opinion. I would not be surprise if Representives from S-VRS is reading this . :gossip: IF they want to regain our respect for them, they should unblock all VRS service providers. True they will lost some money, but better have respect than no respect at all.

I do know that most VRS companies have a waiting list, and there's the installers. Some installers aren't timely. You will have to continue emailing the VRS company to remind them not to forget you. Which VRS company you applied at for a free VP-100?

I applied with the Soreson service. Finally, I just got a email from them that they'll be in touch with my local service...I hope I get mine soon since I found out that the company is out of stock right now. I think that my state is on low budget or something..eek. That's the common problem for Washington state.

I don't think they are actually out of stock.. They try to open enough Call Centers to take care of the demand for VP-100s. The more VP-100 are requested, the more call centers are needed to handle to number of incoming calls. They don't want to over-do it as they are already backed up on incoming calls.

I think they should remove the limit and allow calls to other relay centers. HOVRS is a good one because you get paid to use their relay service!

Ahem. Apply through CSD right away:

I've heard that they are GREAT about getting back to you through this application, rather than contacting the state relay manager.

I got fax from Sorenson Media attorneys today!

They're saying the court documents on HOVRS vs. Sorenson Media are 'defamatory'. They demanded me to retract everything and remove the documents off our website.

I tell them this, get real!

Watch my message on this issue next week in ASL at our OTF Mall website!

neusmith do your self a favor GET REAL, dont bring plms of UR legal actions into AllDeaf.com site this is not OUR plm it is YOUR plm ok ??? thank you!

That's entirely between HOVRS and Sorenson Media. My problem is not enough deaf people know about it. My answer is I tell everyone about it.

If Sorenson attorneys want to scream, let them, I cant hear anyways.

VampX: While this topic may lead to off-topic as I get a feeling from Javapride... I think its good idea to create a thread and move the post related to the problem with Sorenson, and let the discussion of vp-100 continue here? I do really want to follow up with Sorenson's legal act. (we will take down at request of HOVRS if they want us to.) If Sorenson is following the discussion here, then I am assume they know what to do to gain back our respect.

Sorenson Representatives, please go ahead reply as we are very curious of what you have to say about our concerns expressed by me, Dennis, Nesmiths, and other deaf folks.

Jin, they won't respond. I'm sure they know their lawyers won't let them do something in such a public way. The best way is to do it in ways that other people won't know unless they do what Richard does -- tell the community! Tell the media! Tell the WORLD!

The media is always a corporation's fickle friend -- one moment, they love you, the next, you're in a scandal of Enron proportions. The bad stuff always gets swept under the carpet unless it gets loud.

You could always be distracted by all the "good" they do -- hey, they did, after all, give $5M to Gallaudet just a few months ago. So, if you're a blind Gally supporter, chances are they just bought a blind Sorenson supporter.

(a break from somber tone)

I just have been svp'ed...
love it so far. I was singing a different tune before I got it. I was hesistant about it-- invasion of privacy, different ASL signs et cetera while typing in English keep my words straight when I know the hearing person...
But I love it so far when I use it to ring up companies or whatnot. Much more fluid within communicating but I have noticed that there are WIDE ranges of skills portrayed int he interps. I have encountered some LOUSY interps while others are just EXCELLENT. I am aware that SVRS have all interps certificated but.... some of them folks look like they are ASL 1 students!

anybody want to see me on TV, pm me so we can v-call eachother :D
(e-mail=electronic mail... video call= v-call!) ;-)

Now I am SLIGHTLY peeved...
when the installation occured and the agreement message popped out and I asked the techican if I can read the paper and he said, "oh it is nothing. just click ENTER" and clicked the ENTER button for me. I was flabbergasted but I was already uncomfortable with his presence so I was just hurrying him up to finish the installation (I was home alone at 7pm when the guy came. so naturally I was nervous.)

I just wonder about Hearing people like friends or families. Can they apply for Free or do they have to pay themself? If they pay themself, where can they buy for one? I know that we have Hearing Families out of state or out of town to keep contact. That make me wonder... Pls reply that question as you can!
Thanks!

If you are hearing and want a VP-100, you have to contact Sorenson to find out what the deal is. There's nothing on their website about how to purchase one, they only say that if you're deaf you can get a free VP-100.
