Does anyone here sell make up from home such as Avon or Mary Kay? Does it bring enough income in to satisfy you?

I am thinking of doing this when I return to school full-time and do this in conjunction with substitute teaching as it can be done around my school schedule.

This won't be for a while as I want to get my truck paid off before I return to school full-time, but I thought I would go ahead and toss this around in my head so I can work out any kinks that may arise.

I really don't know of anyone who actually buys from Avon or Mary Kay. I would not pay any money into it if they ask you to. If they ask for money I think this is their "real" business, making money off of those trying to make money.

One woman sells Avon products at work, apparently it's quite popular. I'm not sure why.

It is tough..I tried selling Arbonne and now I am trying to sell Melalecua..tough but it can work if you put a lot of effort into it.

My mother used to sell Mary Kay and I tried selling Avon. Both were extremely hard. Mom made better money selling Tupperware. It's just not popular these days. (at least not around here) Avon usually sells itself, but you have to find the client base and that's the hard part. Here where I am, in our neighborhood alone there are about 15 women who sell Avon and 6 of them do it full time and it pays their mortgage. The others are all part time and they use it to save up and buy Christmas and birthday gifts from the money.

I guess it varies on location.

There are some people who thrive on makeup, while others just go for the natural look.

I have a friend who sells Avon and she has her own website. I suppose if you work hard enough and do the work it is something you can make really good money doing. Like anything in life though you have to do the work.

I was a marketing manager in Chicago for Liz Claiborne cosmetics. Our sales girls sold a lot of cosmetics and its just basically doing the work. You control how much you make, if you are motivated enough you can make the money. While Liz Claiborne is a high end cosmetic we still made it affordable for our customers.
You have to build your own clientele and keep your customers coming back, thats tough part.

It does depend on your marketing niche.

I do quite well on my two websites- Keens' Knickknacks as well as my candle blog- Purrfect Scents. Oh I have Scentsy beat! You know the Scentsy bar- I've been pouring those bars well before Scentsy came out. Easy-peasy design!

In my personal blog, I share a lot of tidbits on crafting. You will need to PM me your email address as this blog is closed off to the public.

I have sold Avon for quite a while and can tell you that YES you can make enough money to satisfy your needs. HOWEVER, it is a lot of work and you have to be very dilligent. I currently go to school also and simply do not have enough time to make it worthwhile. The only reason I continue to sell is so that I can get the discount because I'm addicted to makeup! :giggle: The people who I know that are REALLY successful are the ones who make it like a full time job. Also, another way to make good money with direct selling is to sign up a lot of new recruits. You will have to be available to your downline (the people you sign up to sell Avon) to help with questions and things, so that also takes time too, but it's a good opportunity to make more money.

I hope this answer helps and I hope it really works well for you!! Great luck!

commissions are nice for mary kay

however selling makeup is great however there are many people already selling and it'll be quite difficult trying to get new customers as many people would be loyal and use the same person they buy the makeup from.

I would personally go with mary kay instead of avon.

I never like mary kay too cheap make-up products. I like mac cosmetics looking so good more radiant color eyeshadows & everything else.
