this thread is about you being stalked. Please do share whatever you want to share such as - what happened, how long were you stalked for, what action you have taken, what worked and what didn't work, what the police/lawyer/judge did, etc..... Please do share any tips. :ty:

I can share something that happened a long time ago. (Something is happening now that I cannot share any info on).

A female friend of mine was being repeatedly harrassed by someone who seemed to always be drunk. This individual was male. All encounters I witnessed between them, it appeared the male wanted to hurt my friend.

I told my friend to report it to the authorities. The authorities did not believe and were unwilling to help her.

The male individual continued to harass her when she was alone, so she became fearful everywhere she went. Then, the male saw her walking in a parking lot (he was on the 8th floor) and he started throwing empty glass beer bottles at her. She couldn't hear the bottles smashing all around her. I took her to safety immediately.

I called the police, the police came with guns drawn and he tried to escape by climbing a tree (he was drunk).

There was a court proceeeding and we never heard from him again.

that is the problem. We all tell them what Alleycat said -

For anyone feeling like they're being stalked, 1) change your number and/or email address 2) block unwanted calls through your telephone company - it can be done! 3) file a police report 4) press charges if you have true evidence. This goes for both men and women.

That's my piece.

but many times, the authorities do not take action nor grant RO (restraining order) so do ya'all have any good tips on how to effectively take action against stalker? I don't.

I have had to "deal with" a stalker when the police did not take action. That's all I can say.

just like most of us... and it's dangerous.... and possibly illegal.

They cannot be reasoned with, and yes, it is dangerous. If I had to do it again, I would.

The victim was in serious danger.

My advice is to avoid confrontation if at all possible. If confrontation cannot be avoided, protect yourself by any means necessary. Make sure friends/family know where you are at all times.

I am going to leave myself out of this thread because I don't want to inflame anyone, it was never my intention to do so. But I will say this much: The things I said (above) are actions I took, with the exception of #4, and they resolved things for me, even if it took a good while. These actions may not work for everyone, but they're at least IDEAS to help those being stalked get started on fixing the situation. Being pursued by an obsessive person does weird things to your mind during that phase.

I'm sorry but I didn't mean to invalidate your suggestion but please do understand that it's the same kind of advice we tell to everybody and on most cases... the authorities say - "sorry can't help you."

but despite of that sounding like it's futile, I believe that the more stories we all share - the more empowerment the victims feel to take action against stalker. Every tip and story helps.

Nope, never been stalked and I hope to never to be stalked ever in my life! :)

There are 2 kinds of stalkers, I believe.

the one who is a predatory type - a person who is aware of his action and has a sole puprose... to terrorize the victim. This is the most dangerous type.

and a passive type - a person who is not aware of his own action that constitutes as "stalking." This one is commonly described as creepy, socially-awkward, etc. The one who doesn't understand what "stop" means.

I've encountered both types of stalkers....predatory and the passive. As for the predatory one, police were involved, and I moved 3 times....on another side of town....changed my phone number, changed my working hours, finally after about 6 months, I felt "safe". This type of stalker (predatory), will break into ur home while you are not there, and at times, try to break in while you are there, even disable your car, flatten ur tires, write you threatening letters and notes.

As for the passive one, it took 1 year before I could feel safe about dating other people....he just didn't want to "let go."....and staked out my apartment all the time, phone calls during the night (late)....followed me to the gym. It's very upsetting to anyone when this happens. My advise is to be careful of who you get involved with. And keep your doors locked at all times, change your locks if you don't want to move..get an "unlisted phone number". And never give it out, only to your family, but not your friends until the stalking has stopped.
