deaf 2 years old kids wear CI

I am deaf, so my son is deaf too. He rarely wears hearing aids but he doesn't like to have them on for long..maybe just an hour then he take it off. Anyway, I want to share little something..

My son is 2 years old, he goes to school every 2nd Wednesday with about 8 deaf kids there. Most of them got CI, all of them have hearing parents. Kids can talk and can understand what they saying. BUT they doesn't know the signs, just very little bit. My son knows signs and he tried to talk to them but nobody paid attention to him. He feel kinda left out, but he still trying to play with kids.

I just wish kids know more signs and stop use CI or something. I want more deaf people come on the earth. Get big deaf world. but I noticed that there deaf world get small and smaller cuz of got CI and focus on talk voice than learning signs. I want to see my son to have social with kids who know signs and able to communicate with him. Than have son talk to adults all the times. He have deaf family on his dad's side, his cousins is hearing and same as his age, they know signs but he don't seen them everyday but I want to find other kids who live near me that know a lot of signs and same as his age, so he can chat with and play with. :-( I really hate CI, no offense.

i undy that! i can feel that way.. i dont like they get a ci for themselves.. i dont blame them when thier parent want to put them while thier kids doesnt know which it either worth for them..

yea i know deaf world is getting smaller.. but hope they prove it worth for " born" deaf baby..
and hope they realize that it wil destory deaf world..
if in that case, then they wrong.. and feel like another nazi like they did to jew..
something like that..
or when they research about deaf world, then they should realize that they should not put ci first place..
something like that..

deaf world need big prove big evidence.. you know..

example, ci is evidence.. deaf world dont.. so we need important evidence that compare to ci.. you know i mean..

I have bilateral cochlear implants and love them. If you hate CIs don't post in the CI section. You have your opinion and I disagree with yours. this is not meant to flame, I was taken back by your posting. Why should the deaf children take off their CIs just because you dislike them? That is wrong. If you hate CIs so much, move your child out of this school into another one.

Uh, Vallee. She's entitled to her opinion. I support CI implantation, but this is a deaf mother of a deaf child expressing her opinion. She has every right to feel the way she does. Also, she is discussing her opinion of CI's, so this is the correct forum to discuss the matter.

I said she was entitled to her opinion. The I wish they would take out their CIs - come on - It is just as wrong for a person with CIs to say I wish he would get a CI.

nono, if they wear CI, they should learn signs too..not just talk voice..but i feel like why they don't want to learn the signs? What's wrong with learn signs?

And there's no other school have deaf. Only one school have deaf program for deaf kids in this city where I live. But I just feel like why didn't they learn the signs too. They can talk and learn same time, it is easy. But they fk signs.

That's okay it is your opinion too. As a bilateral CI user, if someone said this to me, I would be upset. I see myself as deaf first, CI second. Each of us deaf individual have different opinions on modes of communications. Why I respect ASL, my primary form of communications is oral and lipreading. I respect and would fight for equal rights and respect, but don't make judgements on others people's children or adults.

What is wrong with voice too. Hey, I am a deaf individual, why should you tell me that I must learn sign. I would never tell you, you must learn to speak or lipread. My choice and my parents choice, it is wrong for you to tell them they must learn sign. There are many reasons and unless you know the family and choices, then you don't know why.

disagree learning to speak and being deaf is not easy. Development of phonenic awareness and phonic skills is very difficult.

The problem is you have made a judgment on this mother. You came into this thread highly offended and that set the tone for the remainder of this thread.

And your expressing opinions to the childern with CI?

Why not express your opinions to the teachers and parents that choose not to use or support or teach sign langauge in their classes ................

Childerns **with or without CI** will always wanting to learn new things even sign languages. It up to the adults and teachers to teach them or to deny them the access to it.

And it seem to me from reading most opinions on this forum if there a deaf child with CI that doesn't know how to sign it's always the CI fault.

It not the parents fault not to research it fully and follow the doctor advice blindly.

It not the deaf commuities fault to publicly acknowledge how much they hate CIs to those parents and calling them child abusers.

So instead of acknowledging or talking with teacher or other parents letting them know how much more benfits their childern with CI will have if they learn sign langauge we all just go and post or tell them "I hate CI" and that the end of it.

Everyone have every right to express his or her opinions but expressing opinions really show who you really are .........

I don't mean to hate CI..Just..when I was little kid, in my class, almost nobody have CI, they use signs a lot, able to communicate with every kids. But now this year, in class, my son is almost only one who knows signs, because kids got CI and focus on talk. So seems like in the future, in many years later, would there have no signs? Back to oral? But I noticed that deaf get less to learn signs, and more hearing people learn signs now. please don't take offense. i don't know how to express my feeling in a nice way. I easily piss people off but I just want to express my feeling out.

True, but why does CI kids involve with deaf program class if their parents don't learn signs? Maybe 3 parents is trying to, it fine but other parents don't seems want to learn signs then why put their kids in deaf class if kids can talk very well and can hear good, why not they go to class with hearing kids? Some deaf teacher work at teachs deaf kids, how can CI kids understand them if they are in class?

I won't get into the CI discussion itself, (or the sign/oral one either) but as a parent, I can understand your frustration and anger. It is hard when all your child wants to do is fit in and they can't, for whatever reason. It hurts you to see them hurting and that is understandable.

i agree that all kids with or without ci should learn sign even if hearing to communicate with deaf parents. but if my kids is deaf i would put ci on her/him after age 1 and teach her/him to talk AND sign.
