Hi I am deaf and I was found that cochlear implants will be the best for me because I have very good speech and that since I wear hearing aid that the hearing aid was not needed since I have hearing with hearingaid....now the question I have is has anyone out there who has had cochlear implant surg has medcial card and medicare pay for the surg to be done ? so that way no one had to pay for the surg themself ? please let me know cause I will be going up May 20th 2008 to have all the testings done.as I already know I am a candiate cause I went last year but was unable to get the surg because I only had the white paper medical card..but now I have the red white and blue (medicare) I am just hoping it does cause I am really so really looking forward into this new experience and dont want to be heart broken once again please reply thanks

Yes -- both Medicare and Medicaid will pay for the surgery. If I'm not mistaken, Medicare will pay up to 80% of the cost towards surgery with secondary insurance covering the remaining 20%. If I am wrong about that, I hope someone will correct me.

Yes, I do have CIs (bilateral) and both of them were covered by Medicaid. Please feel free to send me a private message anytime. I'd love to chat! :) To send me a private message, click on my user ID and then click "send a private message to Hear Again." Hope that helps!
