Texan guy. Does the CI help you communicate?I'm a "victim" of the parents' decision about me being candidate for Cochlear Implants when I was 3, but, right now, I'm used to it and I don't blame my parents for it.
Thanks. I am just curious if you would consider removing it. And also, do you have any regrets that your parents made that decision for you? Thank you for sharing your experience with me.Yeah, it does helps.
What is he saying in the video. I am not good enough at sign to follow along. Thank you for helping.
Thanks!I will type the dialogue out another time. It is late at night. If someone else beats me to it, thanks to the other person for taking the time. I will try to do it tmw after work when I am more clear-minded, ok?
I actually went to school with Matthew Fowler and his wife, Heather.
So how come he's against CI while you re in favor for it"?
We need more like this to expose the fraud of CI and oppression from hearings.
I got mine very recently, in 2006, and had no problems with it. However, Matthew had many problems with his implant which was old...he had gotten it when he was 14 years old. His parents begged him to get a CI, which he relented to...and now he wishes he hadn't.
I got mine when I was 26 years old and it was completely my choice. No one asked or begged me to get one. And I am still enjoying it ever since.
Makes sense.
Yep. I have a student who got his CI when he was 11 because his mother kept telling him that it would make life easier for him. He said he finally relented because he thought it would be easier for his mom to communicate with him, as she learned only minimal sign. But, he is one that still relies on sign in most situations. I asked him once if he had to make the decision all over again, would he still get the CI after having lived with it for 9 years, and he said, probably not. When I asked him why, he said it has helped him with some things, but he could do just as well without it.
Some of my former students have told me the same thing but yet, there are others that have told me that they cant live without their CIs.
Funny thing is that all of them want both speech and ASL.
Yeah, my student, too.
