Just a few moments ago i spoke with my mother and she said she went to see some sort of clairvoyant and she told her she knows a guy who can fix my hearing  (apparently its related to my past life), I told her that im not interested in that sort of stuff but she is convinced it will help me i just need a open mind.

I also want to make it clear i dont believe any of that magic sort of stuff. How can i convince her that my hearing cant be fixed?.

You can't. Tell her you love her and appreciate her concern, but that's not the route you're going to take.

She probably won't change her mind... she has her internal, emotional reasons for believing as she does.

But you might find a relevant article here.

Oh, brother. Your mother can not accept you for being deaf and she want you to have a normal hearing like her. So she is seeking out and believe the seer or clairvoyant hoping that there will be someone who will fix your hearing.

I remembered long time ago when I was in the bus with my mother in Chicago and I was surprised and puzzled by the woman standing beside me placing her hand on my shoulder. I looked up what she was doing. She was praying and the way she touched me and prayed like that bothered me. I looked at my mother and she was not responding to me by gestures. There are people who would try to cure any disability people like me. There was no miracle at all. I am just myself being happy to be deaf.

I don't know if your mother will give up trying or still continue hoping one day you will wake up hearing like a miracle. I don't know what you can do to make her give up trying to make you hear. Before you became deaf, were you born deaf or born hearing? :hmm:

Ive always wanted to try candling to clean my ears but I'm fine with the way I don't hear. Lol.

I'm sorry your mom thinks your hearing is spirit related.

There was a Christian who gave me a "healing prayer". He swore that it cure him of his diseases (didn't specify which) and said I should pray "with all my heart" for the prescribed amount of time.

I was born-again Christian at the time, so I gave it a shot. Faith really was not a problem. The prescribed time came and went with no change.

I threw away the paper.

These days, I'm more interested in reality as it really is.

It happened to me also...(a religious relative)...listening to Oral Roberts on TV and putting her hands on my head. trying to "Heal"!...

It's true, that we late-deafened or those who are slowly losing their hearing, might become depressed...and ur Mother realizes and notices this. She means well...but I agree with you, I would not even attempt to do something like this. Most times, it will only make you feel worse.

Asking her doctor, or someone that is close to her, to have a good talk with her might be a good idea....all in all, I believe she is just trying to help you in any way she can. All mothers do want the very best for their children, and some find it hard to accept if something goes wrong, and try to find any avenue they can to "fix" the problem....

Having a heart-to-heart talk with her might work also. Good Luck!

It is almost impossible to read this book and not be outraged by the callous and reprehensible behavior of the so-called "faith healers." Not only does Randi reveal the methods and tricks used by these charlatans, but he provides example after example, including actual documents, to back up his findings. He demonstrates just how disgracefully these individuals use every underhanded trick they can come up with to wring money out of people who honestly believe that their hard-earned dollars are going to support a good cause; they believe they are doing the right thing, when in actuality their donations are used to purchase sports cars, clothes, and new homes for these supposed "men of God."

Thoughts?

Randi's book might be good (haven't read it yet), but Carl Sagan had a way with words. He treats the subject kindly... he's not trying to bash the reader over the head with his views. He was aware that his readers might have attachments to their belief and he wanted to "let them down gently" as it were.

Randi's material (that I've seen) tends to hit harder.

Depends on what you think will go further with your mother.
