I just posted this in a different thread but I thoughht it might be an interesting topic.

What does your tinnitus sound like? Does anything make it better or worse?

Mine

Right ear.....2 sounds One similar to the hum of a vibrating sander and the other a constant high pitched beep

Left ear.....A beep that sounds like Morse code,The same sander sound but lower.the sound of an electric razor trimming hair (it sounds different than when the razor is just on) and a sound of locusts early on a summer evening.

All of those at the same time......Sometimes the hums will get higher or lower, louder or softer. Sometimes I will also hear a sound like 2 drumsticks are tapping together.

Both ears sound like there is a swarm of locusts or crickets with a fan behind them almost constantly. Occasionally my right ear will have what sounds like the beeps from the hearing test in it too. Other times I swear I hear music that no one else can hear. My hearing aids mask most of the tinitus but not all the time.

Interesting. We were discussing phantom limb earlier.......I didn't realize tinnitus was nerve damage. Or if I knew that I forgot.

I know many have it. I was surprised to find out not everyone (deaf) has it.

one of the causes is nerve damage but I think the nerve part is the most common issue for many. Others is the damage caused by prolonged exposure to loud noise. For deafies - it's usually the nerve damage. Handful of them get a headache.

I have gotten a headache from it before. Not to often. I have gotten used it. It does wake me in the middle of the night sometimes.

nothing we can do about it... yea

Lately I have been hearing beeping noises in my right (non-CI) ear. It sounds identical to the beeping warning noises I get right before my CI in my left ear batteries goes dead. And this occurs when I am NOT wearing my CI. It's a new tinnitus sound for me, it began a week ago. Odd.

Beeeep......Beeeeep......Beeeeep! and I go WTF, cuz I do not have a CI in my right ear! LOL!

A really long drone.... like Velvet Underground's drone in their songs or a tuning fork.

It's annoying because the only way I can cancel it out is replicate the drone.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8130/4.5.0.89 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/106)

I get the high pitch ringing sounds. I also get the rapid clicking sounds.

 but never gave me a headache.

It annoys me but not physically painful.

I get it once in a while. i would hear like someone pull the string strong one and let it go that's how I heard it once in a while. i am glad that i dont get it all day everyday. but i feel everyone who have tinnitus for many hours many days many years. :(

i get it every once in a while. only when I listen to loud noises, such as standing 3 feet in front of blaring firetruck sirens and horns I get some tinnitus for a while then im good.

Can't do an audiogram correctly because of it.

Same here. High frequency sounds during the hearing test tends to trigger it. I have told the audiologist this before. She tells me to raise my hand if I even think I hear something.

problem is i hear something constantly. pretty stupid.

High pitched ringing for me. Phantom sounds are more annoying. I hear voices!:giggle: The balance issues are difficult, too. :thumbd:

Non implanted ear experiences tinnitus in a form of droning, beeping whistling. I think I am having tinnitus while wearing my HA. I don't know why though.

I have tinnitus during hearing tests too, I recently told my CI audiologist and she said she would remember for my tests. But one frequency I was testing at 65db and she said that I would hear unaided a tiny bit which I replied was not true. I don't think she remembered....

Musical tinnitus overlaps the zinging & roaring...seemed at times like a "plunger" on my ears, in and out. High beeps & zings give me headaches at times. Never a "silent" moment. Very hard to concentrate. Does it get better with age? With me, it hasn't. Trying to sleep w/the music repeating over and over, almost impossible. Takes a long time.
Sleeping pills might work, but easily to get addicted, I don't take them. The tinnitus was so bad after my 3rd surgery, I think that's why the "musical" tinnitus took over. Always a "song" in my head!
It's no picnic, we deafies do suffer a lot....might as well dance a jig if you've got musical tinnitus!....Makes hearies wonder what you're up to! And whispering..."she can hear."!

I get the pretty classic tinnitus that sounds like the high frequencies in the hearing test booth. Occasionally if I hear an ambulance I will hear that ambulance over and over again for the next few hours, but that's pretty rare. It's not too loud. It's vaguely annoying but isn't a huge issue for me.

Mine only happens every so often. Sometimes ringing or buzzing. I get more phantom noise than anything.

Very interesting. It's amazing the different sounds we hear. When I could hear better I could mask it with music. Now I can't hear the music so it doesn't help.

I have never heard voices (as tinnitus). I have mistaken sounds for voices before.
