I m disappointed that someone stole my Garmin Nuvi GPS on dashboard of my 2007 Honda CR-V near Cleveland Catholic Church this afternoon when he had damaged passenger s window. I was idiot that should hide it. I will contact my auto insurance to find out tomorrow.

I hope that insurance might cover to pay me for new GPS or not.

They should make GPS units with fingerprint readers, so if the reader is removed or keeps getting the wrong prints, it'd make a built in cell phone call the police with its location then use up all of its charge with heating coils to melt itself. :D

Geez! I have a Tom Tom. but I ALWAYS remove it and hide in in vehicle or take it with me before I leave. It is too expensive to leave it stuck on the dash or windshield for someone to take.

Chevy I'm sorry for what happened to you. I hope your insurance covers it.

I wish that police could target to find GPS systems.

Well look at me.....they stole all of my fancy stuff. A GPS is nothing....you can replace it easily while I can't. :( It depends if you have property coverage on your policy...they might cover it. If you mentioned your insurance that you have GPS unit and they will have it in records...once it's stolen....they can cover it. I think it's too late to do that.

Right. I have my police report for damaging window and stealing GPS. I will find out about insurance coverage tomorrow.

Might help with police report and show it to insurance. :) Is it an expensive GPS unit?

I am sorry that this happened to you, Chevy57. Usually on shows like CSI police are tracking people by GPS on cell phone. Too bad GPS car system can't be tracked like Blackberry.

Seqs is right. A GPS is nothing, be glad you were not in the car when it happened.

GPS Windshield Mounts Tip Off Thieves

Navigation systems are now the number one item being stolen from cars. Thieves are on the lookout for your suction-cup windshield mount, or even the smudges it leaves on the glass. Here are some tips from GPS Magazine to keep your GPS safe:

Consider using a friction mount instead of the suction-cup windshield mount most GPS devices ship with. Friction mounts rest on the dashboard instead being attached to the glass, and can be easily hidden under the seat when the car is parked. Plus, there's no revealing ring on the windshield to tip off thieves.

If you do use a windshield mount, remove it when parking the car and wipe off the suction cup smudge.

Another good idea is to save your GPS's serial number on MyThings so if it is stolen, police will have the info they need to easily identify it as yours.

I had my GPS device with friction mount. I was idiot to hide it under my car's storage today.

I need to get GPS for my business trip. I will look for it at low cost by Ebay early next year. Garmin NUVI is not so expensive. Less than $120.

Use google maps from point A to B and print it out? :)

Or memorize it from your head. I do it all the time, it is helpful.
