Ooooo, you were lucky not to get stung. I remember a friend of mine stepped on one and he got stung in his leg. It was a Southern Stingray that he stepped on. He was such in an agony and had to go to the hospital. The Southern Stingrays that are found in the Stingray City in Grand Cayman are the friendly ones and they love people to death lol.Taylor said:I have seen the large ones at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. In the chesapeake bay, there are much smaller ones. During their mating season, you can see them come to the surface and turn on their sides (looks a little like a shark fin sticking up). They then smack down on the water. I've also stepped on them on occasion back in the day when I used to swim in the bay. Luckily, me or my friends never got hit with the tail...and I'm not even sure the ones in the chesapeake sting as I've stepped on plenty but never got stung.
Your post got my curiosity up so I started looking into it. It is the 'skate' (a form of ray) that I may have been stepping on. Both stingrays and skates are common in the chesapeake, but most forms of skates do not sting...
Hmmmm it may have been in Grand Cayman that your sister and teacher went to because it is not far from Mexico.Sweetheart said:I never see it. But I saw the pictures from my teacher and sister, Emily that they went on the Cruise in somewhere near by Mexico, they did hold them and pet them also. That's so awesome! Thanks for sharing
