I am attempting to brainstorm some ideas to make my personal living space more homey. I know I need a couple pieces of furniture, and a TV stand, but how about some other ideas? I welcome any ideas. :)

If you read, maybe some bookshelves?

Used to do a lot of reading, and I do have a bookshelf already. Problem is, it's not stable enough to stand by itself without some reinforcements, and speaking of which, I need to make a mental note to get that at the end of the month.

This may sound silly, but add your personality into your house. Maybe a sofa of your favorite color? Paint the walls. Put pictures or buy artowkr to hang. ..idk

Ok, I'm going to respond to 3 of your posts at once, along with a comment I saw from our turbo-charged friend.

The other posts of yours were about what to do when you're bored and how to save money. (I know you're not always bored: sometimes you're busy. But you know, *next* time you feel bored.) The comment from Derek was that out in your area there seem to be so many people trying to learn ASL, needing to converse with native signers, and so few Deaf people in comparison.

Ok, so here's my idea. Offer a barter deal. Maybe on Craigslist, or maybe if you go to social events where Deaf people and ASL students go, whatever you feel would be good ways to reach people. You can offer to meet with a person and give them an opportunity to converse in ASL for an hour, maybe on a regular basis if it works out, and in exchange, you would like a piece of artwork for your living space. Maybe if they're good at drawing or some sort of craft, they have something or could make something for you. If it's really involved or really nice, maybe you would give them multiple sessions for a piece.

Then, if you get some artwork this way, you can use it to decorate your living space, and each piece would have a story with it because it came from someone you helped and had conversations with. You wouldn't even have to be so specific as to say "art work". Maybe just "creative additions to my living space" - maybe you'll end up with something practical but interesting.

Just a thought. Like you said, brainstorming.

Not at all. I'm actually working on making my room a St. Louis Cardinals friendly room, as they're my favorite sports team. I have six different hats (Still missing one more), and I also have a NL Central banner from 1994, the year that division was supposed to begin play. I have another one from 2003 or 2004, when they still had their old logo. I'd like to add more, in particular World Series championships from 2006 and 2011, and NLCS championships from 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2013. Division title banners? Forget that. Too many of those.

That seems like a darn good idea.

One teeny tiny problem.... I'm not an expert on how to handle artwork. I don't even know how to handle it the proper way. That's okay, though-- I'll stick to staff I can handle-- like wood and fabrics (And metal for bicycles)

Isn't personalizing your living space a no brain-er... do you REALLY have to ask how to do that? Do you REALLY need people to tell you to put crap you like in your own space to personalize it?! REALLY?

I wasn't talking about the entire house. Just my room, and it needs a little something to brighten up my day, and I am open-minded. I like ideas. Nothing wrong with that now, is there? I'm trying to find something I might like, cause some of the bits and pieces I have here now don't exactly agree with the limited space I have. I just want a comfortable space. That will be all.

Thank you for letting everyone know you're Cardinals fan. Imagine try asking Chicago Cubs fans how to personalize your house with Cardinals decorations. You wouldn't want my advices when it comes to sports. :)

Yes!!! Where he lives is within an hour or less from 2 schools that offers strong interpreter programs. You can meet a lot of ASL students.

There are a lot of Deaf events that happens in Chicago area close to train line. Easy to get there.

You gave me an idea. I did post that barter deal maybe 6 or 7 years ago on Craigslist. I remember meeting someone who worked at a museum, but I lost touch with this person. I should try making a similar post now that 2014 is time for positive changes.

I've a lot of bike decorations along with some scale model cars. Some of them are turbocharged!!!

Who would like this as a living space? ;)

Me!! Minus the daily living stuff. That, and no fish or sharks, and also no crabs grabbing my toes, either, cause I know they like to do that.

There is nothing wrong with being open minded to new ideas.
People have already responded with some wonderful ideas to this thread and solutions on other threads where you mention a problem, wi-fi, icy sidewalks etc... Why not reread a few with an open mind as to how they might work rather then thinking about the worst case scenario. Then actually try a few out and post a review of how the new experience went.

I should, but my program I live at has rules for stuff regarding slick and icy stuff. They want my housemates and myself to leave it to the professionals to do the job, because of a back injury I sustained years ago. And I'll admit it-- I am stubborn. You could say that I have pride of a sort.

There were a few ideas on that thread that would have been safe for a bad back :)
But anyway, good luck with the room decor!
