doesnt this make you wonder if living longer in 21st century is a good thing??

As a former health aide I don't think living longer this century is a good thing. I saw the quality of care for my clients go down in last century . And senior housing is a thing of the past in my city , it now called low in come housing so anyone can live in the building. I had women clients in their 80's - 100's that where to frighten to leave their apartments because some of people where too tough looking . If you're in good health and have enough money and good health insurance it can be good thing , but if not living longer is not a good thing. When I asked one woman if she needed any shopping or laundry done she asked me to ' kill her' . I had few clients just waiting to die. :(

It's not a good thing because things are changing too fast, unsustainably. Those of you who are teenagers, I really fear for you, because you will see a massive world war, guaranteed. I'm pretty sure I will, too, even though I'm already 47. It is why I packed up and moved out of Houston. I will be going to a farm that will put me at a comfortable distance from the big city.

The reason she asked you to kill her is not just because of her infirmity, but because she no longer understands the world she's living in. I have already seen signs of it myself. This much more a police state than it used to be, a technologically segregated society, and this is why I find myself heading for farms or living villages, to maintain some semblance of connection to the life I knew decades ago.

You see, I knew about the population problem when I was but 9 or 10, after I had been learning to read for more than two years. I looked at the problem of population growth in the World Encyclopedia, circa 1976 when they were brand-new (Dad bought them for me). I just happened to land on it while randomly flipping pages (as it wouldn't be until the 7th grade before I was forced to learn the ABCs so that I could use a dictionary). It was clear as light what it meant when I read it. The exponential-growth chart next to the article, I'll never forget it.

We're all screwed...

The population numbers probably will never come down as it will keep growing as human breeds or infertility.

Unless there is another incurable plague like the Black Death.

Or zombies swarm all over the world….

Yeah those too.

That would be something to see! :Ohno:

Zombie plague.... don't like the sound of that. And since I'm a rather slow and sedentary person I'd probably be one of the first on their list of people-to-chow-down-on.
Although unless movies have lied to me, they eat brains to survive..... in which case I'll be one of the last on the list :)
