Watch this video, it's of a deaf guy in the military.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtKTcPq7XBs&feature=youtube_gdata_player]TEDxIslay- Keith Nolan- Deaf in the Military [Subtitled] - YouTube[/ame]

Can deafies join military?

I've known of this man for a while. I support his facebook page.
:) He's correct in everything he has to say.
I hope that maybe one day we can serve. :)

I watched the video.

Yea, I got the same when I tried to join army and marines in HS.
Even I'm not full deaf, I can hear ok with HA, they did not accept anyone with a hearing problem. I was told I could only stay for classes or non-infantry position.

It seems Cadet Nolan has same issue, they let him in but won't let him advance.
I think army is same policy as police. Almost no deaf as police officer, but work in police office ok.

Yes. Sadly it doesn't matter how intelligent you are or even if you can do the job without accomodations. Hearing loss in either area army/police isnt acceptable.

:(

I always said to my friend here, maybe if they start a deaf town/city, they can probably allow for a deaf police. ;)
