I was watching the news and I just thought that you would like to see this-

"From land to the sea, fish are helping scientists fix hearing disorders. If zebra fish lose hearing, they naturally re-grow new auditory cells. Scientists are studying the genetic process to restore hearing in humans.

A. James Hudspeth is an Investigator for Howard Hughes Medical Institute
in Chevy Chase, Maryland. "So our hope is that we can actually end deafness.""

I personaly am hearing but I did not like this statement! I love how the deaf community has their own culture and way of living outside of th hearing world.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and feelings :gossip:

Of course scientists operate from a medical or pathological view of deafness. My issue is how society will treat those who are still deaf if this does become a "cure".

Where's the link?

Supposed the story changed to "So our hope is that we can actually end blindness," what then? Or "So our hope is that we can actually end spinal paralysis,"? But not deafness?

I am both deaf and blind. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this.

She knows where F-L-O-R-I-D-A is but not F-L-O-R-D-I-A

It's the loccation you chose for yourself.

:) Check your spelling.

I wasn't sure if Floridia was an another country I haven't hear of. But since you said southern U.S., then I know it is a misspell.

But then again, Most people don't spell states correctly if they are not from there.

So you think the OP is a liar and from somewhere else completely?

You have depths I did not suspect, Lighthouse77.

No..what?

To a culturally Deaf person, that statement is like trying to say:

"So our hope is that we can actually end Judaism." Replace that with any other genetic-related ethnicity.

However, considering that majority of the population are deafened later in life... of course scientists would operate from a pathological viewpoint-- that's their target audience. You're right with addressing the problem of... what's going to happen to the pre-lingually deaf.

Bebonang once had a plan where we would live in an underground cave system. I found it very appealing and wanted to go right then.
