I have been wanting to learn Linux for a while and I have a question for the computer people in here. Is it possible to partition my hard drive and have windows 7 on one and Linux on the other?

My laptop runs Windows 7 and Ubuntu (runs on Sun VirtualBox though)

yes. as long as you have enough HDD space. you can have as many OS as you want if the HDD space permits.

I've had 5 OS before.

I have 220 gigs free so space is not an issue. How much room should I set aside for it and what version of Linux should I get?

Oh, Id use ubuntu 10.4

if you need help installing a couple of stuff lmk. Very easy. and 20gb is way plenty.

Ubuntu comes with everything ready to go. 600mb

Funny you brought this up, I just got done configuring my dual boot laptop. Got everything going smoothly earlier before you posted this thread.

ubuntu is a good one to start with

you can go to http:/www.linuxlinks.com or http:/www.distrowatch.com to get info about different distros

but don't be alarmed there are many, many ,many distro's out there
(I currently have over 200 versions at this time)

Hi there,

if you want use USB flashdrive as bootable feature, you can download to your desktop screen and then run the ISO into USB flashdrive.. you should buy USB flashdrive least 32 GB and above, that plenty install about 20 GB into USB flashdrive.
